WTF - Duct Tape
3D modeling and product images for WTF — Extreme Tack X3 duct tape. The project included two product images for two product sizes, both with packaging and without. These products were also intended for pre-sales. The product itself was modeled from a real sample, and the packaging was modeled using the die-cut lines from the label file. A frequent challenge with this approach is folding the packaging die lines without a reference image.
Goal
- Create 3D product images for two duct tape sizes, with and without packaging. For versatility, the product images will be delivered without a background.
Process
- 3D modeling the roll from a sample
- 3D modeling the packaging using the label’s die lines (Adobe Illustrator file)
- Creating the packaging surface materials based on best estimate; roll materials assessed visually
- Lighting design
- Rendering and post-processing
Result
- Eye-catching product images with no background
- The client was able to start pre-sales while the product was still in production
